ENGINEER VS MANAGEMENT

By Nash   Posted at  10:31 PM   Work No comments
Once upon a time, a man in a hot air balloon realized that he was
lost. He reduced altitude and spotted a woman below. He descended a
bit more and shouted. "Excuse me, can you help me? I promised a friend
I would meet him an hour ago, but I don't know where I am."

The woman below replied. "You're in a hot air balloon hovering
approximately 30 feet above the ground. You're between 50 and 51
degrees north latitude and between 114 and 115 degrees west
longitude."

"You must be an engineer," said the balloonist.

"I am," replied the woman. "How did you know?"

"Well," answered the balloonist, "everything you told me is
technically correct, but I've no idea what to make use of your
information. The fact is, I'm still lost. Frankly, you've not been
much help at all. If anything, you've delayed my trip."

The woman below responded, "You must be in management."

"I am," replied the balloonist, "but how did you know?"

"Well," said the woman, "you don't know where you are or where you're going.
You have risen to where you are due to a large quantity of hot air.
You made a promise, which you've no idea how to keep, and you expect
people beneath you to solve your problems. The fact is, you are in
exactly the same position you were in before we met, but now, somehow,
you've managed to make it my fault!!"

haha...aku rasa betul gak pe yang artikel ni bagi tau....

Reason to not to add your boss to Facebook

By Nash   Posted at  5:44 PM   Work No comments
This is why we should check who ever we add to friend list before we approve the request...so that things like this can be avoided...but for me, i think the boss him/herself is not professional from his/her comment (if it's true la), u don't mix up ur emotion with ur work decision, furthermore if the employee give his/her comment after the working time, u don't have right to fire him/her just because of this typical reason...but in this comment i can see that the employee him/herself not so well performed, there the boss have a valid reason...hahaha, all in all, actually all boss out there, we as human can never satisfied everyone around us, no matter how good u are, so just accept the facts...hehe

How to keep your workers alive and loyal.

How to keep your workers alive and loyal.

By EVELYN CHUE

Companies must understand the importance of making holistic and objective decisions about talent

It was leadership guru Stephen Covey who said: “You can buy a person’s hands but you can’t buy his heart. His heart is where his enthusiasm, his loyalty is.”

The “heart” we are echoing here is the organisation workforce. How can we keep the lifeline of an organisation alive when we fail to understand its “heart”?

Organisations today are shrouded in economic mystification, complexity and anxiety which result in unpredictability that compounds various challenges organisations face to steer change, find and develop identified talent, prepare for the future and lead business growth.

Many factors sway an organisation’s performance and one of the most significant factors – often overlooked by most of us – is how well we understand our workforce.

The revolutionised workplace demands a good blend of talent to deliver innovative results that keep the business competitive. Attracting and retaining talent are top priorities today and this is why human resource practitioners have to gear up and proactively start solving “people” issues.

The workforce is changing rapidly. Technological advancements and globalisation are putting businesses of all sizes under immense pressure and making it increasingly difficult for organisations to recruit, motivate and retain talent.

Organisations across regions are exposed to a maturing workforce that has amassed years of experience but is now on the brink of retirement. The challenge faced by today’s leaders is to recognise that workforce diversity is not just about different cultures and gender, but also about the differences between themselves and the next generation.

They need to identify drivers which motivate these divergent groups so they can introduce flexible acquisition, retention and reward strategies that match their varied aspirations.

“We need somebody who has good analytical and critical thinking capabilities, exhibits influential interpersonal qualities, has the courage to make tough and impactful decisions under fire, and also the right experience.

Most importantly, he must be loyal to the organisation” – Does this sound familiar to you?

The talent manager’s big question is, often, how to not only retain key employees but also how to engage them in the organisation’s mission. Simple answer: Find an individual with the right blend of personality, ability and experience. Finding high-potential talent can be like searching for the Holy Grail and before it can be found, it must be identified. How?

If your organisation can invest a little to assess and ensure it finds the right candidate with the passion and ability to manage the job, you would eliminate a wide range of problems that would otherwise keep you awake at night.

Furthermore, you will be amazed at the boost in productivity and returns when you invest in the right areas. It is all about finding the right fit for the right job with the right skills and wide exposure of experience. Some organisations may think that monetary repayments will suffice to take care of the needs of their employees. However, do they even try to understand what inspires each individual?

What motivations forge them to move forward? At the same time, what hinders them and slows them down? Are you worried that your organisation’s next generation of leaders may be ill-prepared to step into executive roles?

It is essential for organisations to understand the importance of making holistic and objective decisions about their talent, rather than making judgments merely through general observations and personal gut feel which usually results in a need for damage control.

Hence, development and assessment centres are designed to evaluate talent with insights from multiple angles and provide a clearer picture of their potential contributions to their organisations. To do that, candidates are assessed across three distinct human capital factors.

Contrary to what some might believe, development or assessment centres do not necessarily refer to a physical location or building.

Instead, it could describe an approach typically comprising exercises, simulations, and psychometric assessments, to capture the dynamics of a particular role. Talents are then assessed, followed by recommendations for further actions.

These centres simultaneously evaluate participants using multiple assessors and assessment techniques, and can take one to five days, depending on the complexity and depth of requirements. Even in this tight economy, there are simple steps organisations can take to help foster a healthy working culture by keeping employees on the job and the organisational pulse alive.

Heart failure (weak workforce) can overwhelm any organisation, regardless of location, culture, size or industry. Threatening as it is, this condition can be prevented and warded off by taking a few simple steps.

Therefore, before our heart fails us, we need to have consistent health checks, as it is crucial that any symptom found is diagnosed, especially in the early stages. The earlier these symptoms are detected and treated correctly, the better our chances of managing them effectively.

Penin...penin...

By Nash   Posted at  10:42 PM   Work No comments
Balik jek cuti arinih, kecoh kat tempat kerja aku orang ingat aku nak 'resign' sebab dapat Petronas. Nih gara² mulut siapa pun aku tak tau sebarkan cerita yang engineer baru der dapat Petronas. Tak pasal² aku pon dijadikan sasaran suspek..hahaha... lantakla, biarla diorang semua dalam keadaan tertanya² siapa gerangan orang tuh. Malas aku nak fikir.

Balik² jek, maintenance pon dah start. Kerja, kerja, kerja...never ending maintenance, kadang² terasa kebosanan menghadap perkara yang sama je, aku bukan nak merungut, tapi, selepas setahun nih, aku rasa cam letih jek dengan kerenah suasana tempat kerja aku...kerja nak cepat, berkualiti, dan ikut standard, tapi kena jimat kos, kalau boleh jangan bagi OT, safety letak tepi (on paper jekla) asal jimat dan cepat siap. Kerah sepenuhnya tenaga pekerja, tak kisah macam mana diorang buat, asalkan siap cepat.

Kadang² aku tak faham, diorang tak tau ker macam mana susah nak buat kerja² tu. Memang semua orang nak senang kerja, tapi selaku orang yang memberi arahan, sepatutnya kita perlu berfikir tentang orang yang pikul kerja tu, bukan semata² fikirkan kerja tuh siap atau tidak. But in the end, aku just follow the flow, diorang nak marah ke, pe ke, janji kerja aku siap, tak boleh siap hari ni, sambung esok.

Nak siap gak, tapi OT tak nak kasi, sacrifice for company, but what company do for us?? My principle will never change, i don't sacrifice my family for work, but my life? Maybe can if i get a good return from the sacrificing. If not, what the purpose for it? Sebab apa yang aku tengok dalam keadaan sekarang, u just come merely for work, not more than that, u shouldn't even sit for a while doing nothing as it will waste each penny of company money pay for u.

On the same time, u must become really competent, knows everything, but don't demand anything, also learn by yourself. Provide training, but don't provide the time to go for the training. Penin, penin, penin.....

p/s: kalau betul sekali pun pe yang diorang cakap tu, apa salahnya, alhamdulillah, dapat rezeki yang lebih baik...amiinnn

Hari-hari ku lalui penuh berdebu..

By Nash   Posted at  10:58 PM   Work No comments

Jadi sesiapalah di luar sana yang nak ceburi kerjaya di industri berat ni, for surela kena prepare our mind set about the environment; kotor, berpeluh, kerja berat, don't think much about air-conditioning, hehe. Apa² pun, safety first, biasala industri berat nih, kena jaga safety. Therefore, it's a good opportunity to learn and gained experience in this industry. Don't hesitate to give it a try if you get a chance of it...(^__^)

By Nash   Posted at  10:44 PM   Work No comments
Pening aku dengan bos aku ni..nak mende2 semua nak urgent, kalau boleh time tu gak nak siap...bukan dia tak tau prosedur-prosedur yang nak dilalui sebelum PO keluar, pastuh nak kene deal dengan vendor lak, vendor dah cakap tak boleh nak buat time tu, time tu gak die nak, dia saja buat-buat tak faham ker atau memang tak paham aku tak taula... sampai nama dia pon terkenal, bila sebut nama dia, semua orang tau dia nak urgent, takde perkara yang dia tak urgent sampai orang naik meluat...tak kisahla, janji aku buat kerja aku sudah, kalau dah tau nak urgent, bagila tahu awal-awal, xdela kelam-kabut, whatever it is....I just do what I can, if u wish something that out of my range, that's it...nothing I can do about it...peace...(^___^)

Mr Nice Guy...

By Nash   Posted at  10:43 PM   Work No comments
Hmm, hari ini dalam line, aku tengok budak-budak technician bercakap mengenai seseorang yang mereka tak puas hati ataupun kurang senang dengan kehadirannya..walaupun aku ada dekat situ dan tahu siapa yang mereka perkatakan, tapi aku bersikap tidak menyokong mana-mana pihak, sebab tiada sebab untuk aku memilih siapa yang patut aku sebelahi...lagi pun dua-dua pihak tak der buat masalah dengan aku..so aku tak nak memusuhi sesiapa, tapi apa yang aku dapat, dalam dunia pekerjaan, it's hard to make everyone around you feel satisfied with what u did, or dalam maksud lain, susah nak jadi Mr Nice guy sebenarnya, bukan semua orang puas hati dengan kita lebih-lebih lagi dalam working environment, jadi aku cuba membuat perkara yang tidak menyusahkan mereka atau cuba mengelakkan perkara-perkara yang dapat menimbulkan rasa kurang senang, but if the matters are related to work rules, procedures and regulations, I cannot compromise with it even someone will feel uncomfortable..it is a fact that they have to accept and understand no matter what it takes...so kesimpulannya di sini, tak salah jadi Mr Nice Guy di tempat kerja, tapi always bear in your mind, you cannot make everyone like you as you wish...pikir2la apa-apa yang patut agar anda dan orang lain selesa bekerja bersama-sama.....(^___^)

Resign Letter...

By Nash   Posted at  10:42 PM   Work No comments
Pengalaman pertama aku memberi resign letter xdela best sgt, haha, tapi nak buat camne, kalau dah memang aku tak akan stay lama dekat kompeni tuh, baik aku ambik jer peluang per yang datang walaupun aku baru saja kerja sebulan, tol tak? Apa2 pon pilihan di tangan kita, we have right to choose the best, bukan aku cakap kompeni sekarang tak bagus, cuma kurang bagus walaupun gaji aku kat situ lebih mahal dari tempat yang bakal aku beralih angin....cuma tempat baru neh dah lama established dan well-known gak di kalangan pengusaha2 industri simen di Malaysia. Aku masuk pun sebagai training engineer selama 6 bulan melalui program khas kompeni tuh. So more proper guidance to gain experince and knowledge and better career development and also future undertakings. Lepas raya neh aku bakal memulakan kerjaya aku di tempat baru, semoga Allah memberkati kerja di tempat baru aku neh dan biarla aku dapat bekerja lama di situ..Amiinnnn
